The Freemasons’ Charity exists to support people facing some of life’s toughest challenges. Thanks to the generosity of Freemasons and their families, it can fund charities across England and Wales that provide practical help, compassionate support and opportunities for people to rebuild their lives.

One such organisation is the Woman’s Trust, a charity that provides specialist mental health support for women affected by domestic abuse. In 2025, the Freemasons’ Charity awarded a grant of £57,066 on behalf of Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London Freemasons, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting women and children whose lives have been impacted by abuse.

Supporting Recovery Beyond Safety

Leaving an abusive relationship is often only the beginning of a survivor’s journey. The emotional and psychological impact of domestic abuse can continue long after the abuse has ended, affecting mental health, confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

This is why the Freemasons’ Charity supports organisations that provide specialist recovery services, ensuring people not only reach safety, but also have access to the support they need to heal, rebuild confidence and move forward with their lives.

Through counselling, therapeutic support and specialist recovery programmes, charities such as the Woman’s Trust help survivors regain independence, improve their mental wellbeing, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.

The Difference Freemasons’ Support Helps Make

The grant awarded by the Freemasons’ Charity, on behalf of Freemasons and their families, contributes towards services that provide life-changing support for women affected by domestic abuse.

During 2025/26, the Woman’s Trust reported that:

  • 1,518 women were referred for support.
  • 818 women and girls were offered specialist therapeutic services.
  • 430 women received ongoing counselling.
  • 124 women took part in therapeutic support groups.
  • 121 women attended self-development workshops.
  • More than 5,000 counselling sessions were delivered during the year.

Women accessing these services reported significant improvements in their wellbeing and recovery, with 91 per cent feeling less isolated, 89 per cent reporting improved confidence, and 91per cent feeling more in control of their future.

These figures represent far more than statistics. They represent women finding strength after trauma, rebuilding self-belief, improving relationships and taking positive steps towards safer and more independent lives.

Investing in Causes That Change Lives

The work of the Woman’s Trust reflects the type of support the Freemasons’ Charity is proud to fund on behalf of Freemasons. The Freemasons’ Charity’s grants programme helps charities that tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing society, including poor mental health, domestic abuse, homelessness, poverty, social isolation and disability.

By funding specialist organisations with deep expertise and proven impact, the charity helps ensure vulnerable people can access the support they need when they need it most.

As demand for domestic abuse and mental health services continues to grow, support from Freemasons remains essential in helping charities expand their reach and continue delivering life-changing services to those who need them most.

Helping People Recover, Rebuild and Thrive

Every day, charities supported by the Freemasons’ Charity are helping people overcome adversity and build better futures.

The support provided by Freemasons is more than meeting immediate needs. It is about restoring confidence, creating opportunities, and enabling people to live healthier, happier, and more independent lives.

As this partnership demonstrates, when Freemasons come together to support expert charities working on the front line, the impact reaches far beyond a single grant, helping thousands of people access the support they need to recover, rebuild and thrive.

Recovery from domestic abuse takes more than physical safety. Specialist mental health support helps survivors rebuild confidence, restore wellbeing, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.
